Thoughts

My sincere condoleances to his family. I have been working with Peter, from Paris, for 2 years, he was very profesionnal. I've met him in Rome during the meeting of European ACATs, I enjoyed his jokes and good mood, he was a very witty and clever man. It's a very sad day. RIP. Sabrina Bignier (FIACAT)

Meeting Peter was very important for us for having allowed our community to once more experience an ecumentical communion with the Anglican monasteries. We're grateful for his enthusiasm for the Catholic faith...we were very struck by the force of his faith and by his passion for the beauty of life and the dignity of every person. I have worked with Peter on the committee for Action by Christians Against Torture and the Death Penalty-UK since 2014.Last year we attended the International Federation for ACATs' conference in Rome where we asked the Vatican's representative whether the Cardinals could condemn the death penalty more strongly ,especially in the USA. Back in England Peter wrote to Cardinal Vincent Nichols about the issue.Just three weeks before his death Peter emailed me a link to an article by Helen Prejean on the significance of the Pope's pronouncement that the death penalty was 'inadmissible'.Despite being so ill this was clearly an issue still of great concern to him.A fight well fought ,Peter! Until his illness prevented it,Peter was both Chairman and Publicity Officer of ACAT-UK.He was an excellent organiser, always cheerful, hardworking and creative-and so proud that he had a daughter that could set up the ACAT website. We on the committee shall miss him greatly. Audrey Wells
